Useful information

Lubricating greases

According to the international standard ISO 6743-9, the distribution of ISO L-X lubricating greases was performed, which is based on the working conditions in which the grease is used.

Marking of lubricating greases according to ISO standard

ISO L X Label 1 Label 2 Label 3 Label 4 Label 5
Standard Lubricators Lubricating greases Lowest application temperature Highest application temperature Level of rust protection Pressure submission conditions Lubricant grease consistency

Label 1 - for the lowest application temperatures; Label 2 - for the highest application temperatures

Letter mark Lowest application temperature, determined by experience, when starting or operating equipment or when pumping grease Letter mark The highest temperature of the lubricated lubrication point in operation
A 0 A 60
B -20 B 90
C -30 C 120
D -40 D 140
E <-40 E 160
    F 180
    G >180

Label 3 - Ability of grease to provide satisfactory lubrication in the presence of water and to provide a certain level of protection against rust

Letter
Label
Protection level
Environmental conditions Rust protection
A Dry No protection
B Dry Protection in the presence of fresh water
C Dry Protection in the presence of fresh water
D Wet No protection
E Wet Protection in the presence of fresh water
F Wet Protection in the presence of fresh water
G Rinse with water No protection
H Rinse with water Protection in the presence of fresh water
I Rinse with water Protection in the presence of fresh water

Label 4 - Load bearing

Letter Label The ability of lubricating grease to lubricate at high or low loads
A EP properties are not required
B EP properties are not required

Number 5 - Classification of lubricating greases according to the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI)

NLGI gradation Penetration in 0,1 mm Fat consistency Common application
000 445 – 475 semi-liquid for gears and central systems
00 400 – 430 semi-liquid for gears and central systems
0 355 – 385 very soft for gears and central systems
1 310 – 340 soft for gears and central systems
2 265 – 295 medium soft for roller bearings
3 220 – 250 medium for general application
4 175 – 205 moderately hard for plain bearings
5 130 – 160 hard for low speed plain bearings
6 85 – 115 very hard briquette grease
