Lubrication of construction machinery

Construction machinery, such as excavators, backhoe loaders, loaders, bulldozers, tractors, graders, dumpers, is used very often at maximum loads, and often works in the presence of large amounts of water, dust or mud, in all climatic conditions. Such extreme working conditions of construction machinery set very difficult requirements for lubricants.

The drive of construction machinery is provided by a diesel engine, transmission of power for starting through gearboxes, gearboxes and differentials, and often a hydraulic clutch or automatic transmission. Operating functions are provided by a hydraulic system.

Recommendations for the choice of lubricants :

• Monograde or multigrade engine oil is used for the engine.
• Oils with a high viscosity index such as ISO HV hydraulic oils are used for the hydraulic system.
• Automatic transmission (ATF) oils are used for power steering, hydraulic clutches and automatic transmissions.
• For bearings and other places that are lubricated with grease, lubricating greases of consistency NLGI 2 or 3 with the addition of EP additives are used.
• For lubrication points that are exposed to high pressures and impact loads, ie where there is a possibility of breaking the lubricating layer, NLGI 2 or 3 lubricating greases with the addition of EP additives and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) are used.
